It's time to put Joomla 1.0 into the history books. Joomla 1.0.x  has reached End-Of-Life (eol). What's that mean?  Simply, the old version (1.0.x) is no longer supported, and will no longer get security patches. So, in order to keep the servers secure, Seven Sages requires all websites to keep their software patched.

Most of the Joomla websites at Seven Sages have already been migrated to the newer 1.5 releases. (1.5.14 as of this week) The few remaining 1.0.x sites need to be updated very soon.

A majority of users have no idea what I'm talking about, and that's ok. You aren't supposed to know all this tech stuff, that's what I'm here for. You probably didn't even notice the version numbers changing frequently from 1.5.1, 1.5.2 thru the recent 1.5.14. Imagine if you had to stay on top of that?

Here is an excerpt from the Joomla site about the end of Joomla! 1.0, moving forward towards 1.6!

An end of an era
Written by Sam Moffatt

Joomla! 1.0 has served us well, but after nearly 4 years of service it has reached retirement. Things are moving forward with Joomla! 1.6 and there is no better time to start migrating to the Joomla! 1.5 release!

As Wilco announced in October last year, July 22nd 2009 was the date that we were going to wave good bye to an old friend. That day has passed and its time for Joomla! 1.0 to take its place in history with over 1.6 million downloads on JoomlaCode alone! (Unfortunately we don't have statistics from the time it was on the old Joomla! Forge). But as we end one era of Joomla! 1.0, we're entering a new era lead by our latest and greatest releases.

If it ain't broke...

For those holding out with the attitude "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", keep in mind that the old versions ARE broke and you are just ignoring the warnings. When you website suddenly starts showing ads for Viagra, or becomes a spam machine, remember that you have been told over and over and over again to update, patch, secure.  (all sites managed by Seven Sages don't have to worry about this, as it is taken care of already)

Backup Reminder

While on the subject of broken records and being told over and over again... do you have a backup plan yet?  You keep thinking about it, but have you done anything about it?  Just do it already, before that hard drive crashes and takes all your work and photos with it. Check out the Backup Solution from Seven Sages.
